Friday Five @ 5

Cloudy day in Marblehead
1. I've never really figured out definitively if I'm a morning person or a night owl. I think I go back and forth. Lately, I'm a morning person. I got up super early everyday this week and noticed that I really enjoyed having some time to do absolutely nothing before the world woke up and things started to happen. I rarely do nothing. Whenever I'm relaxing I always feel the need to be reading or watching something or listening to something. This was kind of nice and a little weird and I liked it. I just sort of sat here in my robe and sipped lemon water and let my brain go. I think it slightly lowered my anxiety this week and these days, every little bit helps.

2. Last night I made, I think, the most delicious meal I've had since all of this started. I posted it on Instagram and a bunch of people asked for the recipe, so here it is: Vodka Sawce by Dan Pelosi who goes by Grossy Pelosi in the social media world. I will absolutely be trying more of his recipes because WOW. I mean WOW this was delicious.

3. What are you reading? I started The Vanishing Half this week and I have to be honest, it didn't suck me in. I'm going to finish it, I hate ditching books midway through, but hmmm meh. Am I a terrible person? I have a track record of not loving things the vast majority of people have loved: Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, A Gentleman in Moscow, the music of Taylor Swift, the entire Harry Potter series, all of them, MEH. I was shocked I loved Hamilton as much as I did, I expected to really dislike it. We shall see how the rest of this book goes.

4. I have sun protection on my mind because this week I bravely went to the dermatologist for my annual skin check. My doctor always reminds me to wear sunscreen daily and I always, always do but it took me a WHILE to find one I liked. Most of them (to me) have a funky texture, are too heavy, or are full of crap. I searched high and low. Earlier this year I started using Supergoop Superscreen daily moisturizer and it's the best I've found. It's clean, has a nice light texture, reef safe (this was new for me, I didn't know to look for it), and does well under makeup. Close second: Elta MD.

5. Earlier this week I wrote about French Onion Dip, Pandemic Nails, and my fury over anti-maskers. Have a good weekend, everybody.
